Battery Backup

For Hybrid Solar Systems

Grid-tie solar systems

A traditional solar system is called grid-tied. You are connected to the grid and when you produce more power than you use, you sell that overproduction to the grid. Then when your solar panels are not producing enough electricity for your demands, you buy power from the grid.

This is a great system for saving money on your electric bills, as you produce much of your own power and have your overproduction credited toward the power you will buy from the utility. Many times you can even eliminate your electrical charges and are getting all the great environmental benefits of producing your own power.

Hybrid solar systems with battery back up

Hybrid inverters, coupled with a back up battery, have a built in transfer switch, which disconnects your home from the grid when it goes down, protecting utility workers and others from your system energizing downed or damaged power lines. The battery and inverter also keep your solar panels producing, when the sun is out, so that you have electricity.

At night or on cloudy days your battery will keep your essential loads powered until the sun is shining again. Want the peace of mind that comes from having a solar system that will keep producing when the grid goes down? Want to keep your essential loads like refrigerators, freezers, internet routers, and lights on when your neighbors power is out? A hybrid solar system with backup batteries is the right choice for you then!

Battery Types

We use Lithium batteries such as Lion Energy and LG Chem. Lithium Ion batteries have greater capacity and performance, take up less space, are maintenance free, have longer life and are a better value for your money than lead acid or AGM batteries. Increased Savings With Batteries

An additional benefit of adding batteries to your solar system is that you can actually program your batteries to supply your electricity needs at night, instead of buying from the grid.

Then, when the sun comes back up, recharge your batteries in addition to powering your electrical loads. Since most utilities buy power you produce at a lower rate than they sell to you, batteries also add to the savings of your solar system.

Batteries are also eligible for the federal and state tax credit, both the installation and equipment costs. This applies to new systems or to adding batteries to existing systems.
